I was sad to learn last Thursday night that legendary musician Prince had died.  I spent the next few days pondering life and death and how someone who I never knew had such an impact on my life.  I was lucky enough to have seen him in concert in 2004 (I think that was the year) and he was spectacular.

Mindfulness teaches us that death is a part of life.  We feel sad, we mourn in our own way and we continue to remain present with whatever arises in our lives.  I stayed in the present moment by honoring the memory of Prince in small ways that felt right to me, playing guitar, wearing purple, posting a Facebook status and playing his songs.  These small acts helped ease the pain of loss and helped me to remain in the present and not be overwhelmed by emotion and sadness.  In truth, I was still overwhelmed at times, and this is the nature of our human and mortal self and is also healing.

Thanks Prince, for everything.
