Patrick Hnatow, LMSW
Patrick is a graduate of Eastern Connecticut State University and received his Masters at the Uconn School of Social work. Patrick has a relaxed, Cognitive Behavioral approach to treatment with an emphasis on mindful self-awareness that has proven effective.
His initial strengths showed with kids in an elementary school environment, easily developing trusting relationships and later found similar success with adult clients and couples. While at a Children’s Outpatient Clinic he helped children, young adults and families improve interpersonal dynamics with a focus on communication skills. “I feel many interpersonal issues have a communication issue at it’s core…” . Patrick enjoys helping people navigate and transcend all varieties of rather common yet challenging life stressors that can otherwise leave people feeling helpless.
Patrick has additionally done extensive research on academic success skills and study habits, helping to improve grades for children and young adults through improved planning, organization and evidence-based best practices for study and test taking. “There are good and better ways to study that been proven to show results and long-term retention of the information.”
This guidance if offered in a group format for varying age brackets depending on current level of education. He additionally facilitates Social Skills groups again, bracketed by age. “I love the interactive aspect of groups and seeing the participants evolve interpersonally and find their voice.”
What clients like about Patrick is his relaxed and personable, no pressure approach allowing clients to determine the direction and pace of treatment. His good sense of humor also helps to lighten the atmosphere and establish an environment of comfort for clients. “I believe treatment begins only after a sense of comfort and mutual trust are established.”
